Tank Location

WATERSHELL rainwater tanks are produced in one standard (500L) size to be free standing (for stability),  light weight (for manoeuvrability) and slim (to fit through standard doorways). They can be located where you would like.

They also can be linked together via our patented concealed connecting system to any volume you require – giving you the flexibility.

Wherever, you decide to locate your tank the ground must be flat and level with appropriate size pavers set in place.

Note each tank will carry a weight of over 500 kgs when full.

WATERSHELL tanks are designed to be self-standing, however it is strongly recommended to fasten the tanks to a secure wall or fence posts to reduce any chance of the tanks falling.

Tank -Top Connector Configurations & Tank Vents

Tank-Top Connectors

WATERSHELL tanks can be connected to your down-pipes using Top-connector Configuration-1 or Configuration-2 as shown.

Configuration-1 minimises the external piping as only a single pipe is required for both water entry and overflow.

Configuration-2 is primarily used in conjunction with a Total-Rain-Diverter (not shown in schematic). This allow for 100% of the water coming down the down-pipe to be diverted to the tank thus requiring a separate overflow pipe. The other benefit is the overflow can be directed to a garden bed where the overflow water can percolate into the soil.

Which configuration to use depends on down pipe diverters you decided to use and the size of your existing down pipes.

We can assist you in selecting the appropriate configuration based on your requirements.

Tank Vents

Venting is required when WATERSHELL tanks are linked to expand the volume. This allows for the movement of air as the linked tanks fills and empties - As an example linking 4 tanks would require 1X Top connector, 3X Vents and 3X tank interconnectors.

Dry / Wet Connection

WATERSHELL

Tanks can be connected via a Dry or a Wet system based on proximity to down pipes, as shown.

1. Dry connection

Connection relatively simple to install with an appropriate inline diverter installed into the down-pipe and using either configuration 1 or 2 for tank connection.

With a dry connection water in the inflow/overflow line will not remain after the rain and as the tank water is used.

We can provide, assistance to determine whether a dry system is appropriate for you.

2. Wet Connection

Connection from down-pipe diverter to the tank will require a water-tight buried inflow/overflow pipe.

The down-pipe diverters need to be 50 – 100 cm above the top of the tank to ensure generation of sufficient hydrostatic pressure to push the water into the tank.

Water collected in the inflow/overflow pipe will remain after the rain and therefore need to be watertight and insect proofed.

If Configuration-1 is used (to connect to the tank)  - the height of the vent on the tank need to be set appropriately to ensure the overflow flows down the down-pipe .

We can guide you with the necessary requirements depending on whether you require a Dry or a Wet system.

Tank features

Height limited to 1.5 m for lower centre of gravity for improved tank stability.

Moulded in indentations for cladding and tank roof installations – therefore no drilling is required, and any external fixtures/cladding does not come into contact with the water.

Each tank come with two threaded 25mm moulded in brass inserts at base of tank.

Tanks designed to be able to use the entire 500 ltr of water.

A single 64 mm hole at top of tank for water entry.

Whilst WATERSHELL tanks are designed to be self-standing it is strongly recommended to fasten the tanks to a secure wall or fence posts to reduce any chance of the tanks falling.

Tank Integrity

Designed using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Fatigue failure analysis.

Engineered with patented internal reinforcing technique to contain hydrostatic forces crated by 500 L of water.

Made with UV rated durable polyethylene which comply with AS/NZS 2040 standards to hold potable water.

Moulded as one unit via Rotational moulding process – this  process  does not release dangerous chemicals, or noxious gases /odours to the atmosphere and the tanks are fully recyclable.
